I. List of Corporate writer duties:

  1. Creates original articles for publication, prepares corporate communications and modifies content for the appropriate audience. Applies creativity and imagination to develop and prepare materials and to adapt previously written content to drive strategic business direction needs and to reach and influence specific audiences and customers. Communications projects include drafting and revising articles, preparing reference materials, handbooks, and organizing other materials.
  2. Participate on project teams to work with customers, Communications Program Managers, Island Scene/Island Scene Online editorial staff, graphic artists and others to coordinate, produce and deliver requested materials. Develop, edit and review materials to achieve and attain customer’s satisfaction and approvals.
  3. Address customer requests for information and respond to service inquiries over the phone, in person and in writing.
  4. Research writing assignments, including HMSA, Internet and library research and interviews over the phone, in person and in writing. Research and write proposals as needed.
  5. Lead project teams and oversee work by other corporate writers and interns as needed.
  6. Provide back up for writers in Communications as needed. Assist Communications Resource Manager, Island Scene editorial staff as well as Communications staff.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

II. List of Corporate writer qualifications

  1. Strong interpersonal, listening, and interviewing skills
  2. Comfort working independently but also collaboratively with other members of busy, active communications team
  3. Strong organizational skills; ability to multitask  and prioritize work
  4. Acute attention to detail and accuracy; self edits
  5. Uses sound judgment when determining content for written pieces
  6. Strategic and creative
  7. Willing to take on highly complex subject matter
  8. Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style
  9. Fluency with Microsoft Office suite of tools
  10. Proficient using/learning digital and web-based tools
  11. Knowledge of or interest in energy industry a plus
  12. Experience writing annual reports a plus
