I. List of Medical writer duties:
  1. Identify relevant research based on clinical criteria for inclusion in new or existing clinical reference topics
  2. Critically appraise basic study types (randomized trials, cohort studies, review articles, guidelines) and advanced study types (systematic reviews, diagnostic cohort studies, prognostic cohort studies, and clinical prediction rules)
  3. Summarize a high volume of content in brief bulleted outlines within standardized templates and styles with minimal errors
  4. Assimilate clinical research information into new or existing clinical reference topics
  5. Identify research that may change clinical management decisions
  6. Participate in training of new medical writers
  7. Participate in ongoing product quality assurance
  8. Other duties as assigned by supervisor
II. List of Medical writer qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in a science or health-related field.
  2. > 2 years scientific writing experience or advanced degree in related field
  3. Active clinical license required for applicants with clinical degrees (for example, MD, DO, NP, PA-C, DDS, PharmD)
  4. Understanding of principles of evidence based medicine and use of health information technology to support clinical decision making
  5. Critical appraisal and statistical skills sufficient to determine clinical relevance and validity of advance study types such as systematic reviews and diagnostic studies
  6. Demonstrated ability to extract relevant clinical information from research and write concisely with minimal errors
  7. Knowledge of medical terminology
  8. Knowledge of advanced PubMed searching strategies
  9. > 1 year experience MS Office Suite including Word (with use of track changes) and Excel
  10. Experience in electronic publishing
  11. Ability to produce high-quality content written concisely in outline format with succinctly stated clinical conclusions
  12. Ability to exercise judgment to make decisions and provide guidance to other team members according to set standards
  13. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously under time constraints
  14. Motivated self-learner with attention to detail
  15. Strong work ethic with focus on team success
  16. Flexibility and ability to effectively manage changing workload demands and priorities
  17. Willingness to learn xml editing software
  18. Writing sample available on request
