I. List of Academic writer duties:
  1. Work with the Marine Corps customer to generate common templates, format and writing style to ensure that all program products are generated with a common voice. 
  2. Design, produce and edit subject matter content which is collected or derived from multiple academic, and doctrinal resources. 
  3. Work with program curriculum developers and regional subject matter experts to procure, non-copyrighted, and copyrighted materials and must manage processes to obtain legal permission to use copyrighted materials.
  4. Tasks shall primarily support the development of “culture general” and “region-specific” educational content for the Marine Corps’ Regional Culture and Language Familiarization (RCLF) program.
  5. Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  6. Responsible for technical and content editing of all educational products generated to support the Regional, Culture and Language Program.
  7. Work with the customer to understand Marine Corps requirements for RCLF Program instructional material and work with other team members, including curriculum developers and regional subject matter experts, “culture general” researchers and graphic design artists to embed customer’s message within RCLF Program educational materials.
  8. During times when products are not ready for editing, candidate will need to support other team members complete their tasks. 
  9. Responsible for generating and managing an editorial process that creates realistic timelines for product development, and brings together customer expectations with team activities.  Process will need to include synchronizing milestones such as first drafts, graphics finalization, staffing and final draft.
II. List of Academic writer qualifications
  1. BS in a technical field or BS/BA in a non-technical field with demonstrated technical writing/communication skills.
  2. 3+ years of Technical Editing / Writing experience.
  3. Proficient at simultaneously editing multiple team generated products within a timely manner.
  4. Capacity to work in a teaming environment.  This will require initiative and a self-starting approach
  5. Requires attention to detail in the polishing stages of a document for: content, formatting, consistency, and grammar.
  6. Demonstrated ability to grasp complex academic material and communicate in a written format appropriate for the intended Marine audience.
  7. Strong background using Microsoft Office products (Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint).
  8. Experience developing and applying MS Word styles and templates.
  9. Familiarity with version control and Configuration Management principles.
  10. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
  11. Experience working in direct support of a DOD customer.
  12. Ability to work with a diverse workforce composed of foreign country SMEs, academics and education program developers.
  13. Thorough knowledge of technical writing principles and practices, and demonstrated experience preparing technical documentation for e-learning modules.
  14. US Citizenship.
